“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” - 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)
A community once held an annual “burning of the past” ceremony at the start of each year. Participants brought slips of paper on which they had written regrets, failures, and old habits they wished to leave behind. At sunset, the pile would be set aflame, and people watched as smoke carried the past away. One year, a man came with a large bundle: addictions, bitter memories, and worldly affections he had never confessed to anyone. As the flames rose, a friend asked him why his bundle was so thick. The man replied, “Because I once thought I had to carry all this by myself. Tonight, I’ve learned that only Christ can make my past truly gone.”
When a soul is truly united to Christ, a new creation is born: not merely a new year resolution to improve, but a regeneration wrought by the Saviour Himself. Old things (sin, addictions, shame, bondage, pride) are no longer the master of your life; all things become new in the spiritual reality of redemption through Christ. Salvation is not a mere reformation; it is the divine act of God imparting life where death reigned, light where darkness prevailed, and purpose where there was emptiness.
Are you ensnared by sinful addictions, worldly desires, or the worship of self and sensation? When Christ’s power of salvation touches your heart, chains are broken; affections shift from the world to the King. Let Christ give you a new creation. Surrender to Him now. Acknowledge your sin, confess them to Him, have faith in His redemption power. He will make all things new and bad old habits fade away. Amen!
Today’s Recite: And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. - Revelation 21:5 (KJV)
Today’s Morning Prayers: Lord Jesus, I thank You for the power of Your salvation that makes all things new. I confess that without You I am weak and bound; but in You I am alive, forgiven, and renewed. Revive those who are struggling with addiction, worldly affections, and spiritual death. Grant them the courage to turn to You and experience the everlasting newness You promise. Help me to live in the reality of the new creation I am in You, walking in Your love, obedience, and power throughout this year. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
