January 9: LIGHTS FOR THE JOURNEY

LIGHTS FOR THE JOURNEY

Then God said, ‘Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years.’”
Genesis 1:14 (NKJV)

For centuries, sailors crossed vast oceans without maps, engines, or instruments as we know them today. At night, they lifted their eyes to the stars. By the position of the North Star and the constellations, they found direction, measured distance, and kept their course through darkness and storm. Small points of light in a vast sky guided entire ships safely home.

On the fourth day of creation, God placed the sun, moon, and stars in the heavens, not merely for beauty, but for purpose: to give light, to divide, and to guide. They marked time, defined seasons, governed rhythms, and illuminated the earth. They did not create the light itself. God had already done that but they were appointed to carry, reflect, and display it.

This is the calling of every believer. We are not the source of light; Christ is. But we are appointed to shine, to reflect His truth, love, and righteousness into a dark world. We are placed in families, workplaces, schools, communities, and nations as living signposts of hope, pointing others toward God’s faithfulness and direction.

The lights in the sky do not compete with one another; they each shine in their appointed place. The sun rules the day, the moon the night, and the stars their seasons. In the same way, you are not called to replace another, but to shine faithfully in your own God-given sphere. When you walk in your purpose, others find their way. When you live in truth, others see clearly. When you endure in faith, others take courage.

Therefore, shine brightly in your calling. Do not hide your light through fear, compromise, or comparison. Guide others through your integrity, your compassion, your consistency, and your obedience to Christ. Mark seasons of triumph with gratitude and seasons of reflection with humility. Let your life become a sign that God is faithful, present, and at work.

Today’s Recite:
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”Matthew 5:16 (NKJV)

Today’s Morning Prayers:
Father, thank You for calling me to be a light in this world. Help me to shine faithfully where You have placed me. Deliver me from fear, pride, and comparison. Let my life guide others toward You and bring glory to Your name. Establish me in my purpose, and make me a faithful light for every season You appoint. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
