“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.” - Deuteronomy 30:19 (NKJV)
A man of God was driving home one evening when armed robbers ambushed his car at Berger bus stop, in Lagos, Nigeria. Guns pointed at him, they demanded, “Your life or your money!” Fear gripped him, but he remembered God's faithfulness. He cared for 85 fatherless children in his ministry, and he had committed his life to the Lord. Calmly, he told the robbers about his work with orphans, how he had no personal wealth to give, and that his trust was in God alone. Miraculously, the gang leader hesitated, then lowered his weapon. The robbers searched the car, found nothing of value. Amazed by his peace and story, the armed robbers let him go unharmed. He drove away praising God, testifying later that in that moment of choice between life and possessions, God honoured his faith and chose life for him.
Beloved, everyday life presents us with the same stark question: “Your life, or money?”—not always from robbers, but from the pressures of this world. Will you cling to material things, security in wealth, or fleeting pleasures at the cost of your soul? Or will you choose life eternal, abundant life in God? Moses urged Israel with urgency: God sets before us life and death, blessing and cursing. The choice is ours, but the heart of God is clear. He desires life for you. He takes no pleasure in your destruction or loss: “For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye” (Ezekiel 18:32, NKJV). God is not waiting to punish; He is longing for you to turn from death-dealing pursuits and embrace the life He offers through Christ.
In moments of temptation, when compromise promises gain, when fear tempts you to prioritize money over integrity, when the world says “save yourself at any cost” or “do whatever it takes”– remember one thing: your life is worth far more than money. Choose life by choosing Christ. Choose Christ over criminality, or cheating. Choose obedience over convenience, faithfulness over fear, eternity over temporary riches. Your life matters eternally.
Today, declare your choice: Say, I choose life. I choose Jesus and His gift of Salvation. I choose blessing. I choose God above all. Let that decision guide your steps, guard your heart, and bring glory to the One who gave His Son so you might live.

Today’s Morning Prayers: Father, thank You for setting life and blessing before me today. Forgive me for times I’ve valued money, possessions, or self-preservation above You. In every choice, help me choose life—Your life, Your way, Your will. Turn my heart fully to You; deliver me from every snare of death and cursing. Let me live boldly for Your glory, knowing You delight in my life and salvation. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
