“Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference.” - Romans 3:22 (NKJV)at is, ‘Be opened.’” — Mark 7:34 (NKJV)
Martin Luther, the German monk and professor had spent years tormented by guilt and fear of God's judgment before he finally met Jesus. As a catholic, he had tried every religious duty: fasting, confessions, penance, pilgrimages but his conscience remained restless. He felt his own righteousness was filthy rags before a holy God. Then, while studying the book of Romans in 1515–1516, the truth struck him like lightning: the "righteousness of God" was not God's punishing justice against sinners, but His gift of perfect righteousness given freely to those who believe in Jesus Christ.
Luther later wrote that this discovery made him feel as if he had "entered paradise." The burden lifted; peace flooded his soul. He realized salvation came not by his works, but by faith alone in Christ's righteousness credited to him. This revelation sparked the Protestant Reformation, transforming millions of lives with the gospel of grace.
Beloved, this is the glorious heart of the gospel: the righteousness of God is not something you achieve: it is something we receive - “upon all them that believe”. It is available to everyone - no discrimination, no exceptions - because all have sinned and fall short of God’s glory. Christ's sinless life and atoning death become ours; our sins are laid on Him, and His righteousness is laid on us. This imputed righteousness means you stand before God not in your own merit, but clothed in Christ's perfection. No more striving to earn acceptance. No more fear of condemnation. You are declared righteous, right now, because you believe.
You can enjoy this great benevolence if you repent and accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour today. Let His truth set you free today so that when guilt whispers, you’ll remember: God's righteousness covers you. When failure looms, rest in this: Christ’s obedience is credited to your account. Live boldly, worship freely, serve joyfully, not to prove your worth, but because you already possess the righteousness of God through your unwavering faith in Jesus.
Today’s Recite: “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” — 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NKJV)
Today’s Morning Prayers: Heavenly Father, thank You for the righteousness You revealed through faith in Jesus Christ. I confess that I am a sinner. I have no righteousness of my own, but I believe you can save me and receive Your righteousness as a gift. Cover me with Christ’s perfection; credit His obedience to my account. Let this truth silence every condemnation and accusation, banish every fear, and fill me with peace and boldness of the righteous. Help me live today as one clothed in Your righteousness, glorifying You in all I do, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
