“Write the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which will take place after this.” - Revelation 1:19 (NKJV)
Joni Eareckson Tada is an American evangelical Christian author, radio and artist who became quadriplegic following a diving accident. For decades she had ministered hope to others from her wheelchair. But a new tragedy struck her. This time around, she faced a new, crushing trial: chronic, unrelenting pain from cancer in addition to her paralysis. In private moments the pain blurred her vision of God's goodness. One night, as she cried out in confusion to God in prayer. God heard her. Though the pain remained, but her perspective shifted from that moment onward. This renewed clarity fuelled her continued faithful witness, turning her ongoing trial into a powerful testimony of Christ's present lordship and sustaining grace.
Apostle John had been banished to the Island of Patmos after surviving several brutal torture including being thrown into boiling oil. There alone in the Island, Jesus told him: record the past ("things which you have seen"), the present ("things which are"), and the future ("things which will take place after this"). We often fixate on what was or what will be, but God calls us to embrace what is true right now.
You may be facing trial and temptations, wondering, "why me?" Your understanding is partial, your view is imperfec but the truths of God are not. You may not be seeing victory yet despite all the prayers and divine promises. Yet Scripture declares it so: Christ reigns, all authority is His, even while rebellion lingers and trials persist. The Word illuminates the present darkness, reminding us of Christ's current sovereignty, His indwelling Spirit, His intercession, and His unchanging promises. What is true in eternity is true now.
Dear friend, do not wait for the perfect sight to live boldly. Embrace "the things which are": you are loved, forgiven, indwelt by the Spirit, seated with Christ, and destined for glory. Let these realities steady you today. The things which may not define your future. Embrace the things which as part of the process or a transition to the greater glory. The partial will give way to the full; the dim mirror will become face-to-face. Until then, walk by the light of what God says is, right here, right now.
Today’s Recite: “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor…” - Hebrews 2:9 (NKJV)
Today’s Morning Prayers: Father, thank You for revealing Jesus as Lord of all things now. Help me embrace with faith the things which are: Your reign, Your promises, Your presence in my life. Even when I see dimly and not all things are yet subdued under His feet, let me heed Your prophetic word as a shining light in my dark places. Until the morning star rises fully in my heart, keep me faithful, hopeful, and anchored in what is eternally true. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
