“Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘Come up to Me on the mountain and be there; and I will give you tablets of stone, and the law and commandments which I have written, that you may teach them.’” — Exodus 24:12 (NKJV)
A driving instructor once shared an experience with a gifted but impatient learner. The student knew how to accelerate, steer, and manoeuvre confidently, yet repeatedly failed the test. When asked why, the examiner’s feedback was consistent: “You drive well, but you ignore the rules.” Only when the learner submitted fully to road signs, speed limits, and instructions did success follow. Skill without guidance proved dangerous; ability without direction led to failure.
This simple lesson reflects a profound spiritual truth. In Exodus 24:12, God called Moses upward — not merely to receive information, but to receive direction. The tablets of stone were not arbitrary rules; they were divine instruction for ordered living. The Hebrew word Torah does not primarily mean “law” in a legalistic sense. Its root meaning is instruction, direction, or guidance. Torah is God showing His people how to live well, walk safely, and fulfil their purpose.
God did not give Torah to restrict life, but to protect it. He did not design commandments to burden Israel, but to preserve them in a hostile world. Just as road signs keep drivers safe and focused, Torah provides moral clarity, spiritual boundaries, and purposeful direction. Where instruction is ignored, confusion follows. Where guidance is rejected, disorder grows. But where God’s instruction is honoured, life aligns.
Many people desire God’s blessing while resisting God’s guidance. Yet Scripture reveals that divine direction always precedes divine fulfilment. Moses was called up the mountain — away from distraction — to receive instruction that would shape an entire nation. Focus is essential for instruction. God’s guidance is rarely received in haste, noise, or divided attention. A focused life is a directed life.
Beloved, Torah reminds us that God has a design for living. Faith is not improvised; it is instructed. Purpose is not discovered accidentally; it is revealed through obedience. When you live daily within God’s outlined guidance, you walk in alignment with His intent. Discipline produces clarity. Obedience sustains direction. Instruction leads to fulfilment.Choose today to live deliberately, not reactively. Submit your decisions, values, and priorities to God’s instruction. A focused life, guided by divine truth, will always arrive safely at God’s intended destination.
Today’s Recite:
