January 6: RETIREMENT PLAN

RETIREMENT PLAN

“For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.”
Hebrews 4:10 (KJV)

In the United Kingdom, many people spend decades contributing to workplace pensions, private savings schemes, and investment plans in preparation for retirement. They calculate carefully how they will live when they stop working: where they will stay, what income they will receive, and how secure their future will be. Wise people plan ahead for the years when their labour will cease. Yet many plan only for earthly rest and neglect preparation for eternal rest.

Scripture teaches us that there is a greater retirement ahead — not merely from employment, but from this present life into eternal rest with God. Hebrews speaks of a rest prepared by God Himself, into which only those who have trusted and obeyed Him shall enter. Earthly retirement ends one form of labour, but eternal rest crowns a life of faithful obedience. One is temporal; the other is everlasting.

Jesus warns us not to lay up treasures only on earth, where moth and rust corrupt and where thieves break through and steal, but to lay up treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:19–20). Paul exhorts believers to labour, not for the meat that perishes, but for that which endures unto eternal life (John 6:27). Every righteous act, every faithful prayer, every sacrificial service, every soul won for Christ becomes a deposit into our heavenly account.

Many are diligent with pensions, property, and investments, but careless with prayer, holiness, obedience, and service to God. Yet no earthly pension can sustain the soul beyond the grave. No savings plan can purchase eternal life. Only Christ secures our entrance into eternal rest, and only a life lived in Him stores treasure that cannot fade. Therefore, let us examine our retirement plan.

Are you preparing only for the years after work, or for the ages after this life? Are you rich toward God, or only rich toward ourselves? Labour faithfully now, not to earn salvation, but to honour the One who saved you, so that when your earthly labour ends, you may enter into His rest with joy. Are your a sinner? Get an eternal retirement plan today by accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour.

Today’s Recite: “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth… but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven.”Matthew 6:19–20

Today’s Morning Prayers:
Lord, I thank You for the promise of eternal rest in Christ. Teach me to live with eternity in view. Help me not to labour only for earthly security, but for heavenly reward. Order my priorities, sanctify my pursuits, and make me faithful in good works, holiness, and love. May my life store up treasure in heaven and bring glory to Your name, until I enter into Your rest. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
